2010 Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition

On June 1-4, the 2010 Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition took place in the newly-built Baku Expo Center. Silk Way Holding and Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC jointly participated in this significant event.

The Aeronautical Authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan


The Aeronautical Authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq negotiated in Baku on 12th and 13th November. As a result of the meeting, heads of delegations signed the bilateral documents, which allowed Silk Way Airlines to operate regular and charter cargo flights to designated points in Iraq. The same rights will be granted to Iraqi Airways.

Charity Transport to Russia

Around 700 boxes, most filled with warm winter clothes from the generous people of Luxembourg, were sent to Russia in support of those in need. The charitable donations will arrive in time for the winter, free of charge courtesy of Silk Way Airlines and Cargolux by way of Baku to Moscow. Cargolux’s Charity Committee coordinated the donation and oversaw the documentation from their headquarters in Luxembourg.

On June 25th, another brand new IL-76TD type a/c (reg. No. 4K-AZ70) arrived at Heydar Aliyev International Airport from Tashkent TAPO Enterprise! This aircraft is 6th on the row from the series of new planes constructed in Uzbekistan in the last 5 years.

Caspian Air Cargo Summit 2009

The third Caspian Air Cargo Summit (2009) was held in Baku on June 8-10 at the Holiday Inn Baku Airport Hotel. This event, organized by Silk Way Airlines and Euroavia International, is the largest air cargo even in CIS/Central Asia region.

The Caspian Air Cargo Summit has always attracted leading air cargo executives to participate in the conference. Dr. Ulrich Ogiermann, CEO & President of Cargolux, gave a special presentation on the consequences of the economic storm for the air transport industry; the current difficulties of world trade and air carriers was highlighted in several ways during the event. Thilo Schmid, Executive Vice President, Lufthansa Consulting, contributed with an assessment of airline management in turbulent times. Among other topics, were the latest developments in air transport policy with a panel of governmental representatives from various countries, discussions on how to shape a sustainable business model for air cargo, EU regulations on emissions and cap-trading, cargo handling, fuel efficiency and aircraft technology.
