Silk Way Airlines expanded to the United States by adding another Euroasian Cargo sales office in Miami. Arthur Ilyayev, Regional Representative for the country, will draw in business from across its other US offices, which include New York, Houston and Chicago. The airline is focusing on increasing its presence with market preparations for the next year will start of the direct all-cargo scheduled 747 freighter services.
On February 27, Silk Way Airlines will fly the very first commercial flight on the new Boeing 747-400F to Kabul International Airport with 78 tonnes of cargo on board. Silk Way Airlines has operated flights to Afghanistan since 2002 on the IL-76 and AN-12 aircraft types, when ISAF and NATO began the security program to restore peace in the country.
Silk Way Airlines accepted the first B747-400F delivery from Cargolux Airlines. On the first commercial flight from the Amsterdam to Baku, the new airplane shipped 98 tonnes of cargo. The next B747-400F is expected next year.
From June 8-10, the Silk Way team attended Air Cargo China, one of the most important cargo exhibitions in the world.
Despite being a young convention (the convention was founded in 2010) the event had more than 13.500 visitors from 67 different countries. Over 400 booths represented 42 nations.
